For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty from the outbreak of the war to the 24th/25th Bebruary 1918.  At all times in spite of his age (over 60 years) he has flinched from no duty however advanced and in every respect has been a model to the younger officers.  With the exception of leave he has never been absent a single day from duty.
