For great skill and gallantry in the operations in Libya during the period from 18 November 1941 to the 2nd of December. This officer commanded the 6th Field Regiment with great determination and bravery during the vital operations in Sidi Rezegh and the attacks which led up to the opening of the corridor on the 27th November. Later during the German counter-attack on 1st December he fought his Regiment against an overwhelming tank attack until the guns were over run. His skill in handling his guns during these operations was beyond praise and was an inspiration to his whole Regiment

For most distinguished service and devotion to duty during the fighting from 23rd October to 11th November 1942. Brigadier Weir displayed high qualities of leadership and skill in bringing into action and controlling the large number of regiments under command during a fortnight of continuous action at El Alamein when his artillery fired between 7000 and 8000 rounds per gun. The success of the operations on the 2nd November was largely due to the skill and efficiency of the artillery under his command
