Colonel Stout was a consultant Surgeon to the 2nd NZEF from 10th February 1041.  He assisted very materially in organising a high standard of surgical treatment not only in the General Hospitals but also in Forward Medical Units.  His great experience and high technical skill inspired the surgical service and contributed to the saving of many lives following all engagements of the 2nd NZEF in Greece, Crete and the Western Desert.
