For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Briastre on 12th October 1918.  He went forward with two platoons and helped to carry wounded
back through heavy shell fire.  Later in the attack he again went out, and whilst carrying in a wounded man a shell burst, killing the other stretcher
bearer, He carried the wounded man himself on his back to the advance dressing station.
