AGAR George Lawrence
4534, Lieutenant Colonel, New Zealand Divisional Signals, WW2

Distinguished Service Order

12 October 1943, Supp 36209, p4545

Lieutenant Colonel Agar has been Officer Commanding 2 NZ Divisional Signals for the past two years, and has command and personally

controlled the signals of 2 NZ Division over this period in every engagement. By his keen sense of duty and splendid example he has

inspired every man of his command to render to the Division the very highest service. Under fire he has at all times displayed the utmost

gallantry. Since El Alamein the particular role of 2 NZ Division has considerably added to the duties and responsibilities of Divisional Signals

in maintaining communications, both forward and rear, over very long distances, and under most trying conditions. The fact that signal

communications have been maintained is a tribute to Lieutenant Colonel Agar’s organising ability and leadership
