Displayed great gallantry in getting his men into position under hot fire in Chunuk Bair on 8th August 1915.  He was most energetic in controlling and
directing his men, being compelled to expose himself constantly and was severelly wounded within the evening.

Captain F.A WOOD, New Zealand Militia, served in South Africa in the 1st New Zealand Contingent as a Trooper, he was invaided home and landed in New Zealand on 25 january 1901. Next day he received a Lieutenants Commission in the 6th New Zealand Contingent which was about to sail for South Africa, and which he accompanied.  In this Contingent he served until it was about to return New Zealand, when he transferred to the 9th Contingent which had just arrived in South Africa, and was promoted to Captain.  He served with the 9th Contingent until the end of the war.  Whilst in the 1st Contingent Captain WOOD was placed in the 1st class of Troopers, and as an Officer he has been reported on as having done very good work in the field throughout the campaign.
