WOOD Allan Campbell
30485, Warrant Officer class 1, 28 (Maori) Battalion, WW2

CITATION
Distinguished Conduct Medal
At Plantanias, Crete, on 21 May 1941 Warrant Officer Wood did excellent work in leading a party of men from Battalion Headquarters in cleaning up a number of enemy parachutists who had landed in the Battalion and Divisional Engineers area.  He personally accounted for many of the enemy who had already come into action.  On 22 May, during the attack on Meleme, he personally led several small parties of our men in bayonet rushes against enemy posts and machine guns.  Later when the attack had stopped he and a soldier stalked and accounted for at least two enemy machine gunners and snipers.  During these operations he suffered a bullet wound on the side of the chest but refused to be evacuated.  Warrant Officer Wood appeared to be fearless and throughout the operations in Greece and Crete set the highest possible example to all ranks
