On the afternoon of the 26 March 1943, during an attack with tanks and infantry 3 miles north of Roman Wall on the El Hamma Road, an enemy
strong-point on the highest featur held out against numerous attacks, 2/Lt Walter's platoon was ordered to capture this strong-point. The Platoon was
pinned to the ground at a distance of about 40 yards by a very heavy concentration of automatic and A TK fire, 2/Lt Walters organised the three Bren
guns of his Platoon to give covering fire and himself led a small party round the left flank and succeeded in capturing the position. 2/Lt Walters
showed great coolness and courage in the face of very stern opposition and displayed outstanding ability in organising his Platoon and leading his
men.'
