For conspicuous gallantry on the 9th August 1915, on the Gallipoli Peninsula, when he was entrusted with an important message, which had to be conveyed under a very heavy and continuous fire.  Although sweriously wounded, he managed with great difficulty and suffering, to successfully deliver it.  His bravery and devotion to duty were most marked
