Hebuterne, 15 July 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while sniping in ‘No man’s land’. In a skilful and fearless manner he worked his way to within 20 yards of the hostile trenches, where he killed ten of the enemy. Later, during the attack, he did excellent work in sniping the enemy as they showed themselves in throwing bombs
