For conspicuous gallantry on the 24th April 1915 at Gaba Tepe, Dardanelles.  During the operations following the landing he on four separate occasions went out and brought in, under a very heavy fire, wounded men after all previous attempts to rescue them had failed.  He exhibited the greatest bravery, and set a fine example of devotion to duty
