For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During operations of a strenuous character, this N.C.O., who was acting as company sergeant-major, displayed untiring energy and fearless disregard of danger, inspiring all ranks by his example. Under heavy fire he consolidated the captured positions, showing that fine leadership and resource which have always distinguished his behaviour.
