Egypt, September 1917.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  During a night attack, as our line approached the enemy’s trench, he dashed ahead, calling to the others to follow him.  He charged a machine gun on his own and bayoneted the gunners.  He then quickly turned the gun around and fired on the retiring enemy.  By his gallant piece of work he saved the squadron many casualties.
