Warrant Officer Second Class Malcolm Charles Nabbs has held the appointment of Battery Sergeant Major in 161 Field Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery, throughout his tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam.  During this time he has taken part in every combat operation to which the Battery has been committed. He has always demonstrated high standards of courage, steadiness, sense of responsibility and reliability far above those normally expected of a senior non-commissioned officer. Frequently called upon to organise and act on his own initiative he has given excellent service. His service, without doubt, has contributed greatly to the operational efficiency of the Battery.  He has firmly and efficiently maintained a high standard of discipline among the rank and file of the Battery. His unfailing loyalty towards and consideration for those both senior and junior to himself has won for him the loyalty and respect of all ranks.  Warrant Officer Second Class Nabbs, by his personal example, has greatly enhanced the reputation of the New Zealand soldier amongst those allied with whom the Battery has served.  The example set by Warrant Officer Second Class Nabbs has been in keeping with the highest traditions of the Royal Regiment of New Zealand Artillery and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the New Zealand Army.
