Hebuterne, 31 March – 1 April 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in pushing out alone along a sap held by the enemy and ascertaining the position of two enemy posts on the immediate front, enabling them to be taken.  Next day he showed great initiative and fearlessness in scouting fresh ground, bombing suspicious dug-outs and generally helping to locate the enemy

La Signy Farm, 2 May 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  While in charge of an advanced platoon post under hurricane enemy bombardment, he commanded his men with great courage and ability, repulsing a strong enemy raiding party, and personally killing the officer.  He set a magnificent example to his men
