Hebuterne, 18 May 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a raiding party. An attempt was made to capture a post in early morning. As this was found to be impracticable, he and his party waited in ‘No mans land’ till daylight, and surprised another post, capturing four prisoners without sustaining any casualties. He displayed courage of a high order, and his skilful disposition resulted in the complete success of the raid
