For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an advance of our troops, though wounded early in the operation, with fine determination and. endurance he continued, in the absence of an officer, to lead his platoon until he was exhausted. His courage and resolute leadership at a critical moment were productive of most valuable results. At all times his example and influence have been of the greatest assistance to his officers.
