Distinguished Conduct Medal

Reutel 15 February 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went out into No Man's Land in daylight with one man to reconnoiter a new enemy work which he had observed, and found 5 of the enemy holding a sniping post. He and his comrade at once attacked the post, killed one of the enemy and captured the remainder. He set a magnificent example of courage and initiative to his comrades.
