France, February 1918, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  When an ammunition dump and some light railway-waggons were set alight by enemy shelling he drove a tractor into the dump and withdrew a number of wagons loaded with high-explosive ammunition which would have otherwise been destroyed.  The dump was still being shelled and burning furiously.  He had previously done fine service.
