Ploegsteert, 14 June 1917.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack.  He carried messages several times over ground swept by machine-gun fire.  After the capture of an enemy position on another occasion he did splendid work in consolidating the captured ground.  He showed great courage and determination
