France, March 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack.  He led his section against a party of the enemy who were using a machine gun with deadly effect, killed the whole party, and then advanced along a sap and drove back another body of the enemy.  He showed splendid courage and determination throughout the operation
