The AFC was awarded in recognition of seven years outstanding service flying the DC-6 with 40 Squadron.  Flying mainly as a captain in the 1960s on worldwide operations, without aircraft weather radar, and was fortunate in flying many VIPs and VVIPs, such as the Queen Mother and President of the United States (Lydon Johnson).---
