For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading his company in an attack.  He established two posts and defended them against counter-attack in overwhelming force.  Just before withdrawing he succesfully made his way through heavy barrage with an order from his Company Commander to the supports.  he set a brilliant example of gallantry and determination.
