CITATION
Distinguished Conduct Medal
Gazetted 2 December 1919, p14914
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Briastre on 11th-12th October 1918.  On 11th October he took charge of a party of stretcher bearers which went up to the front line, and superintended the evacuation of all the wounded of one company under the most difficult conditions and spasmodic shell and machine-gun fire.  The next night he again assisted in the evacuation of the wounded from the front line and personally ascertained that no wounded were left lying out.  Throughout he showed great energy and devotion to duties.

Meritorious Service Medal
Gazetted 18 January 1919, p1023, Rec No 2753
For gallantry and for conspicuous devotion to duty during the period from 25th February 1918 to 16/17th September 1918. During this period this Warrant Officer has acted as sergeant major to the Battalion with unfailing zeal and enthusiasm, both in action and during periods of rest. He has worked unceasingly and continually in the performance of his duties, except for a short absence when he was wounded, and has been of immense service in instructing the noncommissioned officers in their duties and in maintaining a proper standard of discipline among both NCOs and men of the Battalion. Under fire, especially on the 30th March and on the 13th September, he has displayed exceptional courage in the organisation and controlling of carrying and ration parties, and has materially assisted in the quick and proper dispatch of supplies of food and ammunition to the front line troops. His high sense of duty and influence for good has been of tremendous value to the Battalion.
