For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When Staff Captain of his brigade he personally visited each Battalion Commander to find out if supplies of materials and water were reachine their destination. He performed this action under extremely heavy shell-fire, during which he visited each platoon with the same object. His coolness and cheerfulness under fire greatly inspired all with whom he came in contact.

British Front, Armentieres 7th May to 7th August 1916, and operations on Somme, 12th September to 2nd October 1916. During the above periods this officer has rendered most meritorious services, both in command of a company, and as Staff Captain to this Brigade. During the recent operations on the SOMME he carried out several reconnaissances under heavy shell fire with very satisfactory results.
