CITATION
Distinguished Conduct Medal
Gazetted 16 January 1919, p867
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Gouzeaucourt Wood on 8th September 1918, and on subsequent days to 12 September 1918.  During this period the communications forward from the battalion headquarters were cut by shell fire, and at all times the enemy continuously shelled our forward areas with high explosive and gas.  He displayed great gallantry in maintaining telephone communications with the front line, keeping the wires in repair, thus ensuring rapid communication front to rear.  All the work had to be done under heavy shell fire in areas deluged with gas, but this man showed utter disregard for personal safely, and at one time was out for five hours repairing lines.  His devotion to duty was an inspiration to his comrades.
