12 September 1918. For marked gallantry and good work during operations. During the attack on Gouzeaucourt in September his platoon commander became a casualty. He led his platoon splendidly and gained his objective, capturing seven machine guns and twenty six prisoners, but after severe fighting was driven out by an attack on his flank. His patrol work has been of a very high standard, and much useful information has been gained therefrom. He constantly set a very fine example to his men by coolness and daring under all circumstances
