France March 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While leading a large convoy of pack-animals up to the battery position he came under heavy shell-fire. Hw showed great coolness in a most difficult situation, and got his convoy forward with very few casualties. He set an excellent example of determination and contempt for danger
