CITATION
Distinguished Service Order
Gazetted 1 January 1919, p2766
For Distinguished service in connection with military operations in France and Flanders.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the
period 25 February 1918 to 16 September 1918.  Lieutenant Colonel ALDERMAN has been in command of 1st Battalion Auckland Regiment.  His
Battalion has been engaged in very heavy fighting during all this period and it is largely due to his great skill and leadership that the Battalion has
come through the operation so successfully.  During the short periods out of the line Lieutenant Colonel ALDERMAN has personally supervised the
training of his whole Battalion and it is largely due to his great skill and energy that the Battaion has been brought up to the very high state of
efficiency to which it now attains.  His conduct under heavy fire has instilled in all ranks the greatest confidence, and his quick appreciation of the
situation has on more than one occassion enabled the Battalion to push forward and secure ground at heavy cost to the enemy but with slight
