For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After his platoon had gained their odjective and were digging in, he rallied twenty men of another unit, and attacked and silenced a hostile machine gun.  He then led the party forward and drove off the enemy and dug in, setting a fine example by his vigorous action and personal courage
