During a tour in Vietnam in 1968 with No 9 Squadron (Iroquois) RAAF, Flying Officer Wells distinguished himself on many occasions by his outstanding flying skill and his display of courage and determination.  In particular during operation ‘Tuan Thong’ in May and June 1968 his skilful manoeuvring of aircraft into a small landing area resulted in the safe recovery of wounded in the face of sustained enemy fire.  Throughout his tour Flying Officer Wells’ flying has been of the highest professional standard and at all times he has shown dedication, courage and determination in the face of the enemy.
