Rossignol Wood 25 July 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when the enemy pierced the line of posts of the unit on his left.  Seeing twelve men coming down the sap towards him, he, with two men, rushed towards them and killed two with bombs.  The remainder ran away and he followed them, leaving the two men to watch a side sap.  One of the enemy attempted to use a machine gun, but he bombed him before he could use it.  The gun was captured, and the remainder of the enemy were forced by this non-commissioned officer towards a body of men of the unit on the left, who captured them.  His fine courage and initiative throughout inspired all near him
