Palestine, 30 March 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  In the absence of his troop leader, and though wounded in the head early in the day, he refused to leave the post, but remained throughout the action rallying and cheering his men.  His fine example of courage, under heavy shell-fire and most trying conditions, was worthy of the highest praise
