Neuville, September 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  In face of heavy fire he went forward to reconnoitre bearer tracks, and directed bearer squads.  His work throughout was full of resource and energy, and by his disregard of personal danger he set a fine example to those under him

Operations in front of Serre, 27th March to 5th April 1918 and particularly on 5th April. At Beaussart , on 5th April 1918, when the enemy was shelling forward and back areas heavily with HE, gas and shrapnel and the main Dressing Station of the unit was under heavy shellfire  CQMS ROBERTS showed great coolness and initiative.  When the NCO in charge of admissions and evacuation of wounded by cars became a casualty CQMS ROBERTS immediately, on his own initiative, took over these duties.  He organised and led, under heavy shellfire, two squads of Bearers to a gun team - whose gun had been completely wrecked, bringing in two surviving gunners.  His examle of fearlessness and gallantry under the trying conditions was an encouragement to all ranks. Between times he indefatigably carried out his regular duties of keeping up supplies of blankets, stretchers, &c
