Fremicourt, 30 August 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  On two occasions when he was the only member of his Lewis gun team left he kept his gun in action without relief. He showed splendid courage and initiative in handling his gun, and by maintaining his position, which was one of great importance, was the means of maintaining the line intact.
