France, February 1917.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  During an attack upon a village he was the first to enter it with ten men, capturing four machine-guns and seventy of the enemy.  He also showed the greatest courage in the capture of the final objective

Messines Offensive - 7th to 9th June 1917.  When his officer was wounded this NCO, with ten men, rushed forward and was the first to enter Messines where he captured 4 Machine Guns and from 60 to 70 Germans.  This NCO showed great bravery which was most conspicuous in the capture of our final objective.
