CITATION
Distinguished Conduct Medal
Gazetted 16 August 1917, p8416
France, 1917.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  During heavy hostile shelling the charges round his mortar were set on fire and were blazing all round the dumps.  With utter disregard for his own safety he put the fire out, undoubtedly saving a serious explosion and the lives of his comrades.  His coolness under heavy shell-fire has at all times been most marked
