For initiative and courage in effecting the arrest of an armed and dangerous offender who had escaped from Waikune Prison.  On the night of
27 November 1964 Leonard Edwin Evans, who had escaped from the Waikune Prison on 11 November, broke into the premises of the National Bank
of New Zealand at Waihī and stole ₤8,000 in cash. Prior to this and following his escape from prison he had committed other offences, including the
conversion of a motor vehicle. It was suspected that Evans was hiding in the vicinity of the old Martha gold-mine in Waihī, and Constable Lindstrom
was instructed to make a search of the area. Evans was known to be in the possession of a pistol and was a dangerous criminal. As the result of
diligent tracking Constable Lindstrom located the offender and apprehended and disarmed him. Subsequently the whole of the stolen money was
recovered.  Constable Lindstrom displayed commendable initiative and courage in effecting the arrest of an armed and dangerous offender and his
conduct is deserving of the highest praise.
