France, June 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  He was in command of his platoon, which was attacked by a large party of the enemy.  He displayed great decision and tactical skill.  Pushing forward a flank of his platoon, he caught the enemy under enfilade and broke up the attack with very heavy losses.  His cool presence of mind and able leadership were very conspicuous.
