France, April 1918.  For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty after assuming command of a platoon.  He reorganised his men under heavy fire, pressed his attack home, and helped to capture a enemy strong position.  He sent back useful information to adjoining troops, and generally displayed initiative and good leadership
