FRIDAY William Douglas
29312, Private, 24 Battalion, WW2

CITATION
Distinguished Conduct Medal
Gazetted 16 January 1942, Supp 35422, p330
Private Friday displayed determined leadership, inspiring initiative and continual acts of bravery from 23 November 1941 when his company first went into action in Libya. In particular, he distinguished himself when as a sole survivor of his Company he mounted a Bren carrier and with complete disregard of heavy artillery, mortar and small arms fire, directed the machine-gun fire of his carrier on to enemy machine-gun posts and repeatedly shouted words of encouragement and inspiration to the defenders of an open flank. These actions undoubtedly were instrumental in assisting to repulse the attack, which was of such intensity that two Companies of the Battalion were over run
