Distinguished Conduct Medal
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  He rendered the greatest assistance to his company commander, who was wounded, controlling the men under heavy shell-fire, and directing the consolidation of a captured position.  He set a fine example to his men by his coolness and devotion to duty under exceptionally trying circumstances
