For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Crevecoeur on the 1st October 1918.  He constructed a footbridge for infantry under heavy fire, and though repeatedly driven off by the fire, returned with his men until the bridge was completed.  The next day he completed another bridge in the time required, though constantly under shell and machine-gun fire.  His skill and tenacity were most marked.

On October 4th 1917 near Shuler Farm, north east of Ypres he showed considerable initiative, coolness and disregard for personal safety during very heavy shellfire.  His splendid example gave confidence to all.  His courage and coolness at all times has been most marked.
