CITATION
Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (CMG)
Gazetted 3 June 1919
This officer has a continuous record of successful work since the beginning of the War, having never been absent from his duties during the whole period except for very short intervals of leave.  He succeeded to the position of AA&QMG after very good service as DAQMG, and his work has been of a very high order. I consider he has well earned the reward for which he is now recommended.

Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE)

Distinguished Service Order
Gazetted 3 June 1916
For distinguished service in the field (Gallipoli).  November 26-30 1915 during a period of very bad weather when roads were nearly impassable for mules it was only by constant supervision and the most careful arrangement that a supply of water and food was maintained.  December 18-19 1915.  Also during the evacuation of the ANZAC position, Major AVERY, though thrown on his own resources, by his skilful manipulation of the means at his disposal and his untiring efforts kept the troops of the division supplied up to the end.  This officer has done very good work ever since he took up the work of Senior Supply Officer & is deserving of special mention.
