For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations of 8th October 1918, at Lesdain.  On one occasion when frontal fire failed to dislodge a hostile machinegun he crawled through our barrage to the rear of the enemy’s position and shot the crew. Later on, at the sunken road, he crawled up under cover and, firing from the shoulder, emptied his magazine into the obstacle.
